Just keep talking to him. Just to share a not identical story, my son talked almost exclusively with echolalia through his toddler days. He would communicate with me through dialog from Disney and Pixar videos, and expect me to reply with the next line. That was fun ? but in truth, he was communicating what he wanted. As time went on, with speech therapy, and with reading to him every night, his speech became what amounts to normal for a kid in the spectrum. Your son is such a cutie! Be patient. As a mother who has taken this walk, I just want you to realize that you probably cannot even imagine what the next several years could bring. Those conversations might come and with them the insights that years of listening can bring. Hang in there; you know him. Amos’s verbal communication skills have grown so much. It’s so fun and rewarding to watch him grow in so many ways. For us the highs were just unexplainable. I have a feeling with Amos there are more to come.
