He was looking at hippo skulls the other day and it is hard to figure out the face from the way the tooth placement in the front looks. This is one reason I agree with the anti-shrinkwrap people. I have not seen any reconstructions of T-Rex as a giant wombat-type creature though.

Except diapsids are much more shrink-wrapped IRL than synapsids. Most if not all living diapsids have somewhat shrink-wrapped skulls that don’t look too different in-flesh from what the skull shows. Well to be fair no one is trying to use this to excuse sunken fenestral skin and outlined bones. The point is simply that people tend to go too far in the opposite direction with the mammal analogy and forget that body fat and muscle distribution is completely different between synapsids and diapsids for the most part.
