thank you for seeing value in me making them do the work. I know that you guys ( the teachers) are all going above and beyond in this situation. It is unprecedented in our lifetimes and you guys picked up the ball and ran with it. Thank you for all you do. I think it’s sometimes underestimated the love teachers have for their students and students have for their teachers. My parents both taught for 30+ years in NC public schools and I have subbed in them for 15 years. I love the kids that have entered my classrooms . While I know the non participation is very disheartening for you. Just know your work is appreciated. You are doing an amazing job.

If we grade work done during this time we are often grading privilege. This is a hard shift, but it may be a good shift. Those kids who spend 5 months doing nothing and come back having to struggle because they have missed/forgotten so much will bear the natural consequences of choosing not to try. If even a few internalize that lesson and develop more intrinsic motivation to work I consider it a win.

This is the schedule we got for my stepdaughter that is in ISCS in New Hanover county. We have four children and both work. It was quickly changed to accommodate her and our schedule. This is the hardest thing I have watched my ASD daughter go through. Schedules are huge! Try doing OT and speech through zoom…… my heart breaks for her.
