Our first stops were to Copenhagen and then Stockholm – quaint, old harbours…the 5 days we spent (oh yes, spent a lot of $ too, this is a high-priced city!) in Oslo and area were thrilling, but after the quaint old of the other two Scandinavian cities, Oslo was startling with its shiny, bright and new!!! You describe it beautifully – I loved it there! The city hall, the crowded promenade – the tall ships and ferries coming in to the harbour – all spectacular!

Thank you Rick. I was in southern Norway in 2008 with a Rotary exchange group (not a member myself). We stayed with host families who were relatively well off. But the compassion they had for everyday workers and the less fortunate was remarkable. I think their way of life works because 1) it’s a relatively homogeneous population and 2) fewer people to manage than the Evergreen state. Still I envy it and can’t wait to return someday.
