I got some amazing spices in Borough Market (London) and made some wonderful meatballs to accompany my son’s homemade tomato sauce, but I don’t think anything will ever top this meal I had just steps from Trevi Fountain in Rome. I still dream of all the fresh, delicious sea/farm to table food in Sicily! I’ve tried numerous times to replicate the Pistachio pesto I had there, with no luck!

If you’re ever in Piemonte (correct me if I’m wrong but it seems our region doesn’t interest you very much), you absolutely have to go to La Molina in Pareto (I write about them here.My most memorable meal was in Spoleto, Italy. My chorus had just finished a rehearsal for the music festival, and a dozen of us went to an outdoor restaurant.

They brought us each a potato before we even saw a menu, which was odd but cool. I had melt-in-your mouth risotto that was served from a huge hollowed out parmesan rind, wonderful crusty bread and red wine. We spent the entire afternoon eating, drinking, talking and laughing.
